Earlier this summer, Lewis Drive resident Susan Zaleta took it upon herself to beautify the traffic islands where Tunxis Hill Cutoff meets Kings Highway East near the town's border with Bridgeport.

On Monday, she made sure to add yet another touch.

In honor of Veterans Day, Zaleta added the American flag, along with flags representing the different branches of the armed forces, to the welcome sign.

Valeta said she thought it was a nice way to honor those who have served.

She joined forces with Green Giant Landscaping and Russell Speeder's Car Wash to beautify the traffic islands, which had long been neglected.
