A student writer for Focus, the school newspaper at Fairfield Warde High School, has receive a $100 prize in Teen Voices of Democracy's 2011 Writing Excellence Contest.

Matthew Hamilton's article, titled "Egyptian Revolution Encourages American Youth," was named best in the Democracy & Patriotism category of the nationwide contest.

His winning article was one of four selected from 156 articles posted on www.TeenVoicesOfDemocracy.com during the 2010-2011 school year. The other three award winners wrote articles in the Social Issues, Political Issues and the War on Terror categories.

High school students are invited to send their articles to Teen Voices during the coming school year by using the "Send Article" button on the Teen Voices website or a free iPhone/iPad Touch app named Teen Voices.

Teen Voices of Democracy is sponsored by the Institute for Democratic Education, a nonprofit organization based in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
