Letter: Kiwanis thank book donors
Published 9:48 am, Friday, August 23, 2013
The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield would like to thank all the public and private schools and libraries in Fairfield who contributed to our annual town-wide book drive to benefit Connecticut Read to Grow. We are happy to report that 8,228 books were collected this year. We have collected more than 50,000 books in seven years!
Read to Grow distributes more than 100,000 books annually, and our Kiwanis Club is pleased to do what we can to help put books into the hands of children in Connecticut. Children of families in need are given a book at birth, at three months and again at age 1. These often are their first or only books. The goal is to promote early language development, literacy and a love of reading. We have been overwhelmed by the support and generosity of our Fairfield families.
The Kiwanis Club of Fairfield meets every Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Gaelic American Club, 74 Beach Road. Membership is open to local civic-minded professionals, business people, and residents who want to make a positive impact on the children of our community.
