The Division II state playoffs are now officially in the Fairfield Ludlowe girls lacrosse's future.

The Falcons dominated the second half, outscoring Staples 4-2 as Ludlowe beat the Lady Wreckers, 9-8 on Wednesday at Ginny Parker Field in Westport.

"To come through in a game like this shows a lot about their character," Ludlowe Head Coach Amy Alvord said.

Hayley Welke scored three goals and Tierney Larson added a pair as the Falcons won their seventh in eight games and improved to a school-best 8-2.

Staples led 6-3 with 3:28 to go in the first half, but Larson and Sarah Nesi both tallied right before halftime.

"I think getting those two goals right before the half were huge for our team," Larson said.

Ludlowe took the lead on a goal by Nesi with 22:11 left and never trailed again.

Staples lost for the fourth time in its last six games dropping to 6-5 on the year. Sophomore Maeve Flaherty scored three times and Adele Mackey scored twice for Staples.
