Fairfield man barricades himself in bedroom for hours
FAIRFIELD - A 36-year-old man, off his medication, barricaded himself in a bedroom and made several requests to be killed by police.
The incident began at 1:46 a.m. Tuesday when police responded to University Drive house for a report of an emotionally disturbed person.
“The despondent made several comments about killing himself and his family members and barricaded himself in his bedroom,” said Lt. Robert Kalamaras.
“Officers established communications with the despondent where he made several requests to be killed by police.”
The Emergency Services Unit was activated.
Officers communicated with the despondent for several hours before getting him to surrender at 4:13 a.m.
The man was turned over to AMR ambulance where he was transported to an area hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
“The despondent was not charged at this time as this was considered a medical episode,” Kalamaras said.
