GREENWICH — A local man who was observed shoplifting on Greenwich Avenue led officers on a chase Friday afternoon, police said, eventually leading to his arrest.

Charlee Rodriguez, 27, of Davis Avenue, was spotted taking merchandise, according to his arrest report.

“GPD officers attempted to make a motor vehicle stop of the subject’s vehicle. The subject fled south on Greenwich Avenue, which evolved into a motor vehicle pursuit,” the arrest summary stated.

Officers dropped the pursuit when the car entered I-95.

“We backed off the pursuit out of public safety concerns,” said police Lt. John Slusarz. “And we were aware of his identity.”

The suspect was driving a 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Rodriguez later turned himself in, authorities said, and he was charged with larceny, engaging in a police pursuit and resisting arrest. He was also cited for traffic violations and traveling unreasonably fast.

Bail was set at $10,000.

Rodriguez was arrested by town police in 2014 on drug charges, and was alleged to have a cache of heroin, marijuana and other drugs in his possession.
