‘Retail scam’ ends in arrests for duo at Greenwich store
GREENWICH — Police nabbed two suspects allegedly pulling an old retail scam — trying to return stolen merchandise for a cash refund on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the arrest report, one suspect entered a store on West Putnam Avenue in the west end of town with a stolen item taken by his accomplice. Two plainclothes officers were in the store when the pair made their attempt, police said.
Arrested and charged with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny were: Kasey Hernandez, 27, of Ritch Ave., Greenwich; and Jeffrey Ricci, 25, of Sunset Road, Rye Brook, N.Y. They were also cited with marijuana-possession charges.
The merchandise was valued at less than $250. According to police, one of the suspects stole the merchandise, and a short time later, the pair attempted to return it for the refund.
Both men were released without bail.
