Stamford man charged in domestic assault
STAMFORD — On Saturday, police arrested a man for injuring his domestic partner during a fight in their Washington Boulevard apartment.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to at apartment at 1340 Washington Blvd. at 6:50 p.m. on a report of a woman who reported being assaulted by James Roche, 54.
The woman said during a dispute Roche grabbed her by the head with both hands and forcibly hit her head against a wall next to a walk-in closet six to eight times, the arrest report said.
The woman then ran out of the apartment to get help. A next-door neighbor told police that right after hearing a loud bang come from the apartment next door, he heard a knock at his door and let a woman in bleeding from the head and pleading for help because Roche attacked her, the report said.
When police got to the apartment, they found Roche with a visible injury to his upper lip and blood on his hands. He told police that the woman bit him on the lip. Officers also observed alcoholic beverages scattered throughout the apartment, the report said.
Roche appeared to be highly intoxicated and had slurred speech, the report said.
Roche was charged with second-degree assault and held over the weekend in lieu of a $10,000 court-appearance bond.
