Two Fairfield Fury travel softball teams with many players from town earned runner-up finishes in tournaments earlier in July. The Fury offers five teams in age-group play in the Fairfield County Fastpitch Softball League during the regular season -- from ages 10 through 18 -- drawing players from throughout the county.

The Fury's 14-and-younger team lost the final at the PONY Southington Summer Scorcher on July 13. Seven of the 11 players are from Fairfield -- Katie Goodchild, Anna Rasmussen, Megan Szuchman, Zoe Holderied, Michaela O'Donnell, Kaleigh Boyle and Abrianna Natoli.

The Fairfield Fury 12-and-younger White team lost the championship game at the USSSA Summer Specatuclar in Meriden on July 13. Twelve of its 15 players are from Fairfield -- Gen Tiago, Sophie Sancho, Tori Lucia, Elizabeth Doolan, Cam Johnson, Emily Sforza, Molly Reynolds, Jayne Magliocco, Nicole Kerstetter, Mallory Elliott, Lily Traum and Clair McCrory. All four coaches live in town, too -- Casey Elliott, John Tiago, Darran Miner and Don Sforza.

The Fury was seeded second in Meriden and won its opening game 4-1. The semifinal was a 9-3 victory before a 4-1 loss to the Fairfield Fury Red team in the championship game.
