WEST HAVEN -- The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team saw its season come to end in the NCAA East Division II Regional final on Saturday night, as top-seeded New Haven staved off four match points in the fifth and deciding set to defeat the second-seeded Purple Knights 3-2 (16-25, 25-20, 13-25, 25-20, 16-18).

Bridgeport closed its season 27-5. It was the fourth straight season that the Purple Knights reached the regional final. The Chargers (30-1) advance to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals on a 27-game winning streak.

Biljana Savic led Bridgeport with 14 kills. She was joined in double figure kills by Ying Shen with 12 and Sabrina Simas with 11. Savic and Shin had double-doubles as they recorded 11 and 20 digs, respectively.

Larissa Oliveira had nine kills and Darsel Springer added eight kills. Taylor McBeth closed out her four years for UB with a match-high 33 digs.

Fernanda Silva directed Bridgeport's offense with 46 assists and had 12 digs.

Keidy Candelaria and Kristy Atufunwa led the champion Chargers with 15 kills apiece.
