The Fairfield Wildcats eighth-grade team improved to 3-0-1 with an 8-0 victory at Ridgefield on Sept. 29, their third shutout win.

The Wildcats pounced late in the second quarter. Quarterback Matt Cerminaro connected with receivers Alexey Linsenmeyer and Jack Kovaleski for big gains before hitting Zachary Taylor in the end zone for a 6-0 lead. Cerminaro then found wide receiver Justin Keith for the two-point conversion.

The strong Wildcats defense, led by Josh Evans, Jacob von der Linden, Clay Zachery, and Will Parisi stopped Ridgefield all game.

Fairfield travels to Darien on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

Seventh-grade Blue falls to New Canaan

The Wildcats seventh-grade blue team took on undefeated New Canaan on Sept. 29 and lost 27-12.

The Wildcats battled back for two second-half scores. The offense was led by the running of Kevin Quinn. Jaden Sneed ran for two touchdowns and converted on three fourth-down conversions.

The offensive line received contributions from Danny Russell, David Dingham, Ryan Hummerstone, Joe Gjinaj, Justin Hathaway, Michael Auray as well as tight ends Jack Bowen and Vince Camera.

The Blue plays on Oct. 13 against Westport South.

Sixth-graders lose

The sixth-grade Wildcats team dropped its home opener to Ridgefield 25-6 on Sept. 29. The Wildcats offense showed signs of life as Alex Farkas caught a pass from Quinn Pavoz for 40 yards, setting up a 20-yard TD run by Farkas.

Tailbacks Sean Nelson and Conner O'Neill were effective at rushing. On defense, Massimo Perillo got a fumble recovery.


beat Darien

The fifth-grade Wildcats defeated Darien 19-6 in Fairfield on Sept. 28. Fairfield offense was led by Lorenzo Cooper and Brendan Howard's rushing. The offensive line of Billy Grace, Jack McKenna, Jimmy Cullinan, Travis Hayden and Sean Flannery opened the holes.

Scoring came on a first quarter two-yard sneak up the middle by quarterback Andrew Conklin. Conklin threw a 35-yard pass from to Jack Morison for a touchdown in the third quarter. Cooper had a 61- yards scoring run. Jonathan Gladstone added a two-point conversion. Harry Chandler provided a great block as quarterback PJ Boehm ran 35 yards for a score.

Fairfield improved to 3--1, and will host Ridgefield Saturday at Ludlowe.

Fourth-grade Blue stops Ridgefield

The Wildcats fourth grade blue team defeated Ridgefield Orange 27-6 on Sept. 29 in Ridgefield.

Ronan O'Donnell ran 55 yards to on the second play on offense for the first Wildcat score. John Moore added the extra point on a quarterback bootleg. O'Donnell added his second score of the day on the next series with a dive from the 2. The conversion was run in by Ryan O'Connell.

Zach Hathaway's interception return was Fairfield's third touchdown. The Wildcats closed out the scoring on a sweep by Matt Passios that was set up by a 40-yard interception return from John Moore. The extra point was added by Tyler Hibbard

Fairfield's offensive line of Grady Golier, Luke Lesizza, Ryan Ginley, Jake Neff, Jack Martin, William Mears, Matt Marsden, Greg Coghlan and Ethan Righter opened many holes. The defense was led by Golier, Ginley, Kevin Kuczo and Ethan Clarke.

Wilton defeats

fourth-grade Black

Fairfield lost 12-6. Harrison Keith took a reception away from a receiver and brought it to the 1 yard line. The Wildcats scored on the drive for a 6-0 lead. Kevin Howard led the Black's defense with help from tackle Casey Woodfine.

Tommy Schindler and Karl Schmidt tried to ge the Wildcats' offense going in the second half. Tackles by Ryan Voytas, Jack Reilling and Andre Mead helped Fairfield in the second half.

The team plays New Canaan this weekend.
