The eighth-grade Wildcats traveled to Darien on Oct. 6 and came up short 6-0 in a battle between unbeaten teams.

Darien's score came in the first quarter on an interception. The rest of the game was a defensive standoff.

Kris Gjinaj, Wil Parisi, Josh Evans and Jack Kovaleski each had strong games for Fairfield.

The Wildcats (3-1-1) sit in third place behind Darien White and their opponents Saturday, Ridgefield Black (4-1-0). Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. at Ludlowe.

Sixth-graders' comeback falls short

The sixth-grade team's comeback bid fell short, losing 26-15 to Darien White last weekend. After letting the home team jump to a big lead, the Wildcats roared back on two TDs by Conner O'Neill -- a 20-yard pass from QB Joey Gulbin and a 46-yard reverse run on the game's final play. Evan Rose scored both conversions, alertly picking up the fumbled snap and running it in for the final points.

Linebackers Tristan Breheny and Griffin Gallati made some big tackles for loss for the Wildcats.

Fourth-grade Blue beats Ridgefield

The Wildcat Bantam 4 Blue team improved to 4-1-0 by defeating the Ridgefield Black 27-8 on Oct. 5 at Ludlowe.

The Wildcats scored on their first play from scrimmage when John Moore found Joey Delia for a 60-yard TD pass. Ryan O'Connell added the conversion.

Zach Hios scored the next Wildcat TD on a 5-yard blast. The extra point was added again by O'Connell. Ronan O'Donnell scored on a 60 yard touchdown run. Zach Hathaway's sweep wrapped up Fairfield's scoring.

Fairfield's offensive line opened huge holes -- Grady Golier, Luke Lesizza, Ryan Ginley, Jake Neff, Jack Martin, William Mears, Matt Marsden, Greg Coghlan, Ethan Righter, Kevin Kuczo and Tyler Palumbo.

Many Fairfield players had breakout defensive performances including Lucca Ionnone, Ethan Righter, Cooper Dailey, William Mears, Nick Hios and Jared Gobey.

"We are teaching them some very advanced concepts for boys that are in fourth grade. They are grasping these concepts beyond our expectations, and it shows on the field," coach Jason Neff said.

The Bantam 4 Blues will face New Cannan at Ludlowe on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Fourth-grade

Black wins

Fairfield Black played at New Canaan on Oct. 6 and lost. The Wildcats relied on blocking from Max Aderholt, Mick Huban and Andy Corbett to move the ball. Logan Marson, Paul Sussman and Denholm Feldman could not prevent New Canaan from scoring on its opening drive. New Canaan led 20-0 at halftime.

Ryan Voytas, Jacob Sanwald and David Jamatias would limit New Canaan in the second half to one score. Harrison Keith had a 65-yard run and quarterback Jack Reillng had a two-point conversion.
