Fairfield wins MAAC women’s Commissioner’s Cup
Fairfield University, led by the MAAC championship volleyball and women’s swimming programs, won the MAAC Commissioner’s Cup title for women’s sports and finished third overall.
The Stags had three teams reach MAAC title games with the women’s soccer team joining the volleyball and women’s swimming squads. Fairfield finished with 56 points to win the women’s sports title for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
Iona won the men’s title with 33 1/2 points while Rider finished with 72 points to win the overall title. Fairfield finished third and Quinnipiac fifth as only 5 1/2 points separated the top six teams.
Teams receive point totals based on their finish in each of the sports. The spring sports were not included in this year’s challenge because the season was cut short due to COVID-19.
