Giese joins SIUE men's hoops staff

Kevin Giese, who was a full-time assistant for Southern Illinois University Edwardsville during the 2003-2004 season under then-coach Marty Simmons, has rejoined the staff as an assistant coach, according to head coach Lennox Forrester.

“Kevin brings experience and knowledge that will help build our basketball program,” said Forrester.

Last season, Giese was a volunteer assistant coach for the Cougars.

“I’m excited to be back and I want to thank coach Forrester for giving me the opportunity to come back,” Giese said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the reclassification to Division I. With that and the renovations to the Vadalabene Center, this is an exciting time to be here.”

Giese was the head women’s basketball coach at Robert Morris College in Springfield during the 2005-2006 season and was the program director for Jets basketball in O’Fallon in 2005.

Giese comes back to the Cougars at an important time in its history. SIUE, a member of the Ohio Valley Conference, is in reclassification to NCAA Division I status and will play several NCAA Division I schools in the upcoming season.

Giese was the head women’s basketball and tennis coach at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., during the 2002-2003 season. He previously was the women’s basketball and golf coach for four years at the University of Dubuque (Iowa).

Giese, who is originally from Wilton, Iowa, also has a variety of college and high school experience in basketball, golf, softball, football and tennis.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1999 from the University of Northern Iowa.
