Caroline Pennington made her mark in her first USA Swimming sanctioned open water event.

A 16-year-old Greenwich Academy student and Old Greenwich resident, Pennington finished ninth in the 2019 USA Swimming Women’s 5K Junior Open Water National Championships held at Marine Stadium in Miami, Fla., last month.

Representing Larchmont, N.Y.,-based Badger Swim Club, Pennington placed ninth out of 77 participants in the event, which drew competitors from all areas of the country.

The 5-foot-10 Pennington, who will enter her senior year at Greenwich Academy in the fall, competes on GA’s swim team, which has won the NEPSAC Division I Swimming & Diving Championships the past three seasons. She sparked Greenwich Academy in the distance events the past two seasons.
