Homa to compete for state title in 'Hoop Shoot'
Christian Homa, of Fairfield, will travel to New Britain High School on Saturday at 9 a.m. to compete in the state finals of the Elks' National "Hoop Shoot" Free Throw Contest. Homa will attempt to defeat his counterparts from the other districts of the state who advanced by winning their local competitions. Homa is the Fairfield district free-throw champion.
Homa earned his trip to the state finals by outshooting entrants from area towns in the district at the area finals in January at Fairfield Warde High School. In that competition, he made 13 consecutive free throws to take the title in the 12-13-year-old boys' bracket.
If successful in New Britain, he will make a trip to Portland, Maine, to compete against the other five New England state champions, where winners there will qualify for the national championships in April in Springfield, Mass.
