FAIRFIELD — The Stony Brook women’s basketball team used an 8-0 run in the second half to pull away with a 73-58 win over Sacred Heart in a non-league game Tuesday night at the Pitt Center.

The Pioneers (3-4) had pulled within three points, 35-32, before a made free throw by India Pagan sparked an 8-0 run to put the Seahawks (7-1) ahead by 11, 43-32, with 6:51 remaining in the third quarter.

Candice Leatherwood scored 14 points and Adrianne Hagood added 13 points in the loss for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers shot 31.6 percent from the floor (18-for-57), including 1-for-12 from three-point range (8.3 percent).

Shania Johnson posted a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Jerell Matthews and Pagan scored 15 and 12 points, respectively, in the win for Stony Brook.
