Sound Tigers drop online hints toward name change

Their parent team’s ad slogan used to be “We’re All Islanders,” and online hints make it appear that the Bridgeport Sound Tigers will shortly drop their unique nickname and make that more true.

The team would not confirm when reached Tuesday night.

Sharp-eyed fans on Twitter noticed text in purposefully “glitchy” images on the team’s social media posts that referenced “Bridgeport_Islanders” on Tuesday, the day the team played its last game of the shortened spring 2021 season. Other posts’ images included text that read “team name ‘Sound Tigers’ not found.”

One of a few similar faux glitches on the team’s website pointed toward a fake error page that suggested “(giving) your computer a little Reboot to see if that fixes the issue?”

The team has been the Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the New York Islanders, since it played its first American Hockey League games in 2001. It has played 1,495 regular-season games and 64 in the playoffs under that name.
