Warde Wrestling Invitational
set for Jan. 4
Some of the best high school wrestling in Connecticut will be on display when Fairfield Warde hosts the Warde Invitational wrestling tournament next week.
Nearly 200 wrestlers from 15 high school teams in Connecticut and New York will kick-off the New Year with a wrestling extravaganza when they converge at Fairfield Warde on Jan. 4, 2014. The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. and matches will continue throughout the day until champions in more than a dozen weight classes are crowned at approximately 5 p.m. Fairfield Ludlowe will compete in the invitational.
Tickets will be available at the door -- $3 for adults; children under 12 free.
The Mustangs' grapplers will look to defend their tournament title in what is regarded by many as one of the best wrestling tournaments in the state.
The Mustangs, ranked fifth in the Norwich Bulletin poll released on Monday, are looking to improve upon their 2012-2013 season, when they finished with a dual-meet record of 20-2 and as CIAC Class L state runner-up and FCIAC East champions for the eighth consecutive season.
Warde will participate in a four-way meet on Saturday against Harding, Shelton and host Wilton.
