George Whiteside, a junior at Fairfield Ludlowe High School, won the Connecticut High School Fencing Association men's epee state championship, defeating Nikal Tasker of Fairfield Prep 15-5 on Saturday in New Haven.

Fairfield fencers Leah Hintz (Women's epee), Drew Skalk (Men's Sabre) and Gabriel Rotar-Crowe (Women's Sabre) all captured spots on the CHSFA's All-State Team.

Tasker's brother, Rahul, placed seventh in the men's individual sabre competition for Prep.

Whiteside recently competed in the U17 and U20 divisions of the Junior Olympics held in Baltimore in mid-February, placing 38th out of 200.
