Western soccer blanks Bay City John Glenn

 

BANGOR TOWNSHIP -- Bay City Western found the scoring touch in the second half of a 5-0 Saginaw Valley League soccer win over Bay City John Glenn on Wednesday.

The Warriors led 1-0 at halftime.

"We had chances in the first half that we didn't take too well," Western coach Kyle Jean said. "We did a little better job finishing in the second half, then the pressure fell off and the guys relaxed."

Justin Schafer scored two goals for Western. Iker Candina, Brett Williams and Noah Colberg had one goal each. Jonny Lillo had two assists. Brendan Schriber, Aaron Seiffert and Drew Kalahar had one assist each.

Gabe Batschke made seven saves for the shutout. Western outshot John Glenn 17-7.

Western (12-7 overall, 4-5 SVL) hosts Davison on Monday.

Swan Valley 3, Bullock Creek 1

SHIELDS -- The Bullock Creek boys soccer team couldn't overcome its mistakes in a 3-1 Tri-Valley Conference Central Division loss to Swan Valley on Wednesday.

"We gave them one that they shouldn't have got early, then we gave them a PK," Bullock Creek coach Bob Linton said. "Every mistake we made, they capitalized on."

Josh Prybyski scored with seven minutes left in the first half to cut the deficit to 2-1, but Bullock Creek could get no closer.

Caleb Zastrow made seven saves for the Lancers, who were outshot 10-7.

Bullock Creek (5-11 overall, 2-5 TVC) hosts Freeland on Friday.
