According to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd, the Big East has talked with Fresno State and UNLV about joining the conference for football only.

In a telephone interview earlier this week with The Washington Post, Big East commissioner Mike Aresco voiced confidence that the Big East will remain a viable league, partly by expanding west.

The league remains largely in limbo. Boise State was supposed to become the centerpiece of a reconstituted Big East by joining the conference next season, but several defections have hurt the league's credibility. There are rumors Boise State will decide against joining the league.
